ET spoke with Avery Brooks about the messages within Star Trek: Deep Space Nines beloved episode 'Far Beyond the Stars,' streaming on CBS All Access. Brooks opens up in this 1998 interview about wanting to explore racism through the lens of a 1950s sci-fi writer, and how DS9 follows Star Treks tradition of prominently featuring BIPOC characters. Star Trek: Discovery continued this legacy with the franchises first Black female lead, and the shows first season will make its broadcast debut in a special presentation starting Sept. 24 on CBS.
